Royal Randwick Racecourse

Our Unique Venue

Royal Randwick Racecourse occupies a remarkable spread of well over 80 hectares of land in the heart of Sydney’s inner eastern suburbs. The site was set aside for horse racing by a governor’s decree way back in 1833. Since then, it has seen everything from vast army camps for embarking soldiers during World Wars I and II, to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s Southern Cross landing there after the first ever trans-pacific flight, to the Pope’s beatification of Sister Mary MacKillop.

In recent years Royal Randwick has seen well over $150 million in capital developments including the state of the art, six level Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand, opened in 2013 at a cost of approximately $100 million, which will house both the Micromobility Conference and Micromobility Expo.
Although it could be argued that micromobility and horse racing are not a perfect cultural fit, venue management will be removing or concealing all betting and other race day signage for the duration of our event.

Meanwhile the venue brings a unique combination of features unmatched by any other in Sydney. These include close access to the city centre and airport and the new Royal Randwick light rail station being directly opposite the main entrance gate.

Most importantly, the spacious, manicured grounds dotted with mature shade trees, lawns and wide paths offer multiple test track opportunities for conference delegates to test ride a wide range of micromobility vehicles.

There will be free, secure on-venue parking for all forms of micromobility vehicles. There’s also a multi-level on site carpark available for a flat rate of $10 per day.

The Micromobility Conference sessions will be held in the Grand Ballroom on Level 2. This can be accessed by stairs, escalators and lifts.

The Grand Ballroom itself can be divided into up to five sections. Its spacious capacity will allow us to configure both the main and break-out rooms to just the right size to accommodate all delegates in ‘cabaret format’. This means up to eight delegates seated at each round table (that usually accommodates 10 in banquet configuration), so that everyone can face the stage.

This set up will be ideal for group discussions and gives you plenty of space for taking notes and for workshop sessions.

The Grand Ballroom is equipped with ceiling mounted projectors, drop down screens, sound and lighting and black out curtains.

It opens onto a large foyer which we’ll use for the session breaks and catering. This in turn opens onto wide balconies that have great views over the city skyline and down to the test tracks and expo below.

Award Winning Catering

As you might expect in such a large, modern venue that’s geared to catering for major events, all catering will be done on site by Royal Randwick’s award winning team.

Being a Micromobility Conference, we think it’s particularly relevant to ensure that all catering is done in the most environmentally sustainable way. This will include minimising disposable waste through using proper plates, glassware and cutlery.

We’ll also be ensuring that all special dietary needs are catered for via our pre-registration form and there will be Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten free options clearly marked.

Accommodation

There is a wide range of nearby accommodation available to suit all budgets, including both hotels and Airbnb options.
